Sonia graduated from the University of Oregon Bachelor of Interior Architecture program, with an Advanced Placement Minor in Historic Preservation. She has a range of experience in the design industry, including but not limited to; consulting for high-end corporate projects, new construction consultation, residential & commercial remodels, boutique restaurant design and construction coordination, and custom furniture & installation design. She currently runs a design business in Seattle that reaches from San Francisco and LA to Vermont and NYC, as well as doing contract work for a New York based firm that specializes in corporate spaces and branding. In a bit more detail, she has direct experience with many aspects of full-service design in her young career: construction administration for a wide range of residential and commercial project types as a project architect at a firm in San Diego, and went on to produce designs, shop drawings, and project coordination at a high-end custom environment firm. Previously, Sonia worked in several areas of hospitality design, specifically collaborative work on several high-profile boutique hotels, including Nashville Union Station, making selections from top to bottom (from lobby, to the hotel rooms and private bathrooms). Sonia loves design challenges and is thrilled at the chance to work alongside wonderful clients, creating the space of their dreams!
Describe your go-to style:
My go-to style is transitional modern, with a touch of Scandinavian mid-century modern. I love European designers, and the quality of a good Danish piece of furniture. The clean lines mixed with textural elements is gorgeous! I love being able to create a space that is unique, global, and rich in history. Simply by adding a piece with flared mid-century modern legs you can create a whole new look, and branch out a bit in design taste!
What drives you to design?
Creating positive, functional spaces is integral to who I am as a person. For me, design is a natural expression of my creative spirit: It is how I relate to people. During my young career, I have added to that passion a strong education and valuable experience in interior design and architecture. I have found success to this point because of my attention to detail, my energetic desire to learn, and my driven determination to excel.
We know you love designing, but what about it do you love most?
I love being able to help people, through the use of my talents and passions! I have many creative outlets, including wedding and floral design, and being able to bring an idea to life for someone is priceless. Whether that's simply showing a visual for a concept that a client has, or coming up with a compelling layout and concept that pushes them out of their comfort zone a bit in an exciting new way. All design should be motivated by getting the best results for our clients sake!
