I need help furnishing my library. For some reason I'm really struggling with how to arrange the furniture in this room. I've been collecting vintage classic books for years and love that I actually have a room to display them. The house was built in the 1920's and the walls in this room are original cloth wallpaper that matches the stain on the wood so I do not want to paint the walls. The ceiling, however, I do want to paint as sometime later they did a sponge treatment on it that I do not like. This room is used for reading, playing games and watching TV. We already have a formal living room so the furniture should be comfortable but I don't want it to look like I just bought it at pottery barn. Also, on that note, no leather!

I like the restoration hardware chair but if it doesn't go with final design I'm good moving it to another room in the house. All the shelving is built in with the exception of the standing book case with glass doors right behind the chair in the picture below. That bookcase to remain.

The bigger windows face south and to the street. So for window coverings would like something that brings in light but has privacy. The other window faces west and to a gated side yard so the privacy is less of a concern, however, that window has a working radiator underneath it.

Using lighter color on your Library ceiling will make it feel more airy and bright. This light sage green will make the room feel fresh and new. It will also enhance the height of the room.

For your ceiling + bookshelf niche color, I chose to use green because it is soothing to the eye. It reminds us of nature and has a refreshing, stress relieving quality. Green is suitable for any room. This soothing color encourages relaxation or tranquility, but has enough warmth to encourage comfort and harmony.

Use a matte finish paint because it will be helpful in camouflaging those surface imperfections such as bumps and cracks as it does not reflect light.
