MaryEllen is an architect and he has been working in the architectural field since 1994. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and her Master of Architecture. Upon graduating, she worked for an award-winning firm and later moved into high-end residential homes. Her inspiration comes directly from the client. She likes to hear about their likes and dislikes, how they use the spaces in their home or business, and how they imagine feeling in the space. MaryEllen designs are drawn from all of the information she receives from them. The end goal is for them to walk into the space and fall in love with it.
Describe your go-to style:
My go-to style is modern. I believe "less is more" when it comes to design. I like clean lines, squared corners, and crisp edges. I am not completely devoid of color, but my go-to color is white and every shade of it. I prefer to let the art and furniture give the pops of color in my designs. While my preferred style is modern, I still enjoy comfort. I will not subject one to concrete, steel, and glass (although those are my preferred materials!) I am all for a cozy couch that you can sink into at the end of the day. Overall, good design will always speak for itself.
What drives you to design?
Design is my passion. I am never not designing or thinking about it. I love to look at buildings, spaces, furniture, and housewares. I have always enjoyed architecture and design. From a young age I knew I wanted to be an architect. Some of my best memories from when I was a child were looking at houses with my parents. I had my own subscription to Architectural Digest when I was 10 years old! Design for me is not just a job, but my hobby. I love delving into my creative side to produce designs for my clients.
From where do you draw most of your inspiration?
Whether it be from a picture they have, their favorite paint color, or a tile sample - all of these things help drive the final design.
