Project Description

I would like to update my home office, which occasionally doubles as a guest room. We also keep the dog crate there. I need a desk with drawers and/or closed cabinets, so my dog can’t grab things off of low shelves. I prefer an L-shaped desk since I can reach things easier, and although I would prefer not to face the window, I would like to be near the window for the natural light. I also do yoga in this room, so a rug that is easy to roll up would be great as well.

I have a photo of a building that I would like to use as the inspiration for the room--it's included in the items to keep section. I would also like to include a globe, a large 3-piece wall art in the design, and a dog crate. I like the size of our twin sleeper sofa, and I am open to suggestions of a replacement, or keep it in the design.

We already know the paint color is going to be “crescent cream” by Sherwin Williams, since this coordinates with the rest of the house. The trim will be Sherwin Williams "highly reflective white". The color in the hallway leading in to the office is Sherwin Williams "creamy".

The window faces north, so it can be dark during the day. I would love an interesting ceiling light fixture as part of the design--I'm often more adventurous in light fixtures than I am with other accessories.

Most interested in a functional space that is beautiful, peaceful, and not too cluttered.

I'm flexible with my timeline, but would prefer not to wait more than 6 months for furniture.

It feels dark, drab, small, and my furniture is a collection of odd things.

What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?

16 x 20 photo of side of building, 3 piece wall art of sun (each panel is 2' x 3'), globe (12" diameter, 16" high), dog crate (36" deep, 22" wide, and 32 "high), and possibly the twin sleeper sofa (48" wide, 32" high, 34 " deep). The photo does not have a frame, and I am open to changing the mat. I am also open to switching the dog crate for something more attractive, but it can't be made of wood (my dog will chew it up). However, It can be stored within something wood.

Additional comments to designers

I chose feminine for overall style, but I would like it to be between feminine and neutral (not too girly).

I chose "no" to changing the wall colors, because we are already planning to paint them Sherwin Williams "crescent cream".

As I mentioned, I like interesting light fixtures, but I don't like boho macrame stuff or those light fixtures made of wooden beads.

Home/Small Office:

Since your room is smaller using a light and pale color will enhance the light and the space in your room

For your main color, we chose to use brown as it reminds us of nature and has a relaxing quality which is easy on the eye. Darker browns work well as accent colors and lighter hues like tan and beige can match and unify most rooms.

Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
