Kid's Study Room
I want this room to feel more masculine/feminine/neutral:

What type of sunlight does this room receive?:
Very little sunlight
What do you currently dislike about the room?:
It feels empty and cold. This used to be the kid's playroom but now we want to use it as a study room and a relaxing place to read. It is carpeted which cannot be removed but I am fine with area rugs. Also, the space is an odd shape so I am having a difficult time figuring out how to utilize the space.
What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?:
Nothing has to stay except the carpet.
Are you open to changing your wall colors?:
Yes
Do you have a preference for either paint or wall covering, or are you open to both?:
There will be a flat screen on the wall right above where the TV currently is. Also the closet is fairly large and the majority of the items will be removed so I would love to use it as a storage area for school supplies/books/projects so that the room is not cluttered. The built in and shelves would stay.
Finally this room would be used for mainly studying but it should also feel relaxing and have a comfortable place for reading.
I love the idea of a chalkboard wall (paint) somewhere in the room and have added some of my favorite pictures of our kids and would love to include them in a canvas like the ones Canvaspop creates. Thank you!

Since your room gets little sunlight a warm or rich color will make the room look more luminous. Since your room is smaller using a light and pale color will enhance the light and the space in your room.
For your main color, we chose to use gray because it is neutral and seen as elegant and classy. It compliments many colors such as white, blue, and yellow and works well as part of a color scheme in any room.
For accent wall a magenta pink to liven the space up with a punch of color.
Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
