What do you currently dislike about the room?:

How it's set up, it doesn't really serve a purpose. It's 26' x 23', so it's a really big space. The side by the fireplace sort of makes sense as a living room, but I don't like the fireplace. It's all steel and black and has no character. I want to warm up our house and give it more textures and colors. I also want to either divide the space into two areas that both have a function or somehow make it one cohesive space. We've talked about having it as a library with a wall of built-ins and a ladder. I'm also curious about using the space as our formal dining room. The kitchen is right next to it.

I recommend an eggshell or satin paint finish.

For your main color, we chose to use white/off-white as it offers a fresh, clean, feel to the space. White and off-white colors are often a favorite for walls because they are light, neutral, and match most color schemes. They are known to make rooms feel more airy and spacious.

Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
