What do you currently dislike about the room?

It's a blank slate - I don't know how to lay out the space. It feels cold and institutional.

What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?

Only the coffee table that is currently in there will stay. I have purchased a new sectional and console table for the room (waiting on delivery). The sectional is a slate gray-blue and the pillows will be a darker blue with a white pattern (picture of swatches attached)..

Also, we have 3 girls (ages 10, 7 & 5), so we want this room to be nice, but also comfortable, functional and family friendly (not formal).

We have a large male tabby cat, so the fabrics for the furniture need to be as cat-friendly as possible (he's already damaged 2 other couches with his nails). On the plus side, this room has a sliding barn door, so we can actually keep him out of this space when we are not home.

We prefer a Transitional style, using a neutral pallet as the base with a mix of textures.

Living Room:

Using lighter colors in your medium-sized room will make it feel more airy and bright

For your main color, we chose to use beige as it offers a fresh, clean, feel to the space. Beige is often a favorite for walls because they are light, neutral, and match most color schemes. They are known to make rooms feel more airy and spacious.

Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
