Moving into a new construction townhouse, the client envisioned a modern rustic design that would complement both its interior and exterior. With some features already selected, such as the flooring and fireplace, they preferred professional assistance in choosing the rest. Inspiration for a Living Room Transformation
The clients provided a link to their inspiration board filled with gorgeous examples of modern rustic living room design. Most of them displayed creative combinations of contemporary and vintage pieces, natural wood accents, fur rugs, and raw surfaces. There were also modern furniture elements with clean lines in neutral hues, blurring the line between urban and exurban chic. Meanwhile, distressed stone accents on the wall or floor enhanced texture and contrast to balance out the modern rustic scenery.

Creating an ideal living room for a client begins with the right design and room goals. The initial consultation involved the answers provided in the design questionnaire and assessment of the space, followed by a discussion of any specific details desired by the client. After defining their preferences, including color palette and furniture choice, our team proposed two suitable designers. Opting for only one moodboard was not easy, but the clients finally decided to proceed with Decorilla designer, Liana S.
In her modern rustic design, Liana’s key goal was to create a contemporary and stylish interior with undertones of rural charm. That also means blending subtle layers of modern furniture & decor pieces with rustic yet timeless elements. As a result, she composed a stunning living room layout where all aspects flow together in an aesthetically pleasing manner. The proposed space felt cozy yet dapper, easy to unwind after a long day and find an escape from city life.
Online Interior Design Results
To bring out the contemporary rustic aesthetic in this living room, Liana opted for sleeker lines of furniture. Nevertheless, all pieces still boast a homey, traditional flair, making it easy to incorporate modern rustic décor. Living room configuration, therefore, follows this selection, with elements arranged according to the creative concept while paying attention to functionality.
The walls are painted soft, neutral white and offset with darker fixtures to create visual depth within the room. In addition, the choice of fabric matches well with the modern rustic concept, oozing an inviting, amiable spirit.
Wooden armchairs and a round coffee table make an excellent match for a plushy Chesterfield sofa the client wanted to preserve as a part of the new arrangement. Meanwhile, sleek metal elements such as ottomans, lamps, and side tables establish balance while bringing more personality into the space.
Another important step was sourcing details like accessories and finishing touches to create a layered, multidimensional look. Modern rustic decor in this living room is a part of the feature wall, together with built-in shelving and a fireplace. Furthermore, using their love of horses as inspiration, the designer incorporated a few equestrian images and artwork into the design plan.
