THE INSPIRATION

The client drew inspiration from lifestyle and decor magazines, with a strong emphasis on a transitional style. Ornate French furniture and deep buttoned upholstery were frequent features in the client’s favorite interiors. The client had three requirements regarding her home library ideas; not to use leather, not to paint the walls and to please paint the ceiling. The modern home library needed to be luxurious, sophisticated and comfortable.

THE DESIGN

Interior designer, Michelle B., drew her inspiration from client’s Pinterest libraries. Digital references enable Decorilla’s interior designers to create a home that is most suited to the client’s style. The online library interior design by Michelle is inviting with natural touches like a seagrass rug and sage sectional sofa. A large couch means ample seating for the family as well as lounging space for when someone wants to lay back for reading.

THE INITIAL MOODBOARD

The client had to choose between two design proposals, both making use of lighter furniture pieces to add the illusion of light. The first option had a subdued color palette with minimal bohemian accents to add softness to the masculine library. However, the gender-neutral color pop online library interior design of the second option perfectly matched the client’s vision. Michelle chose to uplift the dark interior with shades of green. A duck egg sofa, geometric and sisal mats with white accents work together to increase the light in the room.

Library Room – Before

Before, the library looked disjointed and lacked color. Now the client can happily look up to see a refreshing hue where the tan sponge work once was.

Now the client could finally get rid of the loathed sponge effect ceiling with Thornton Sage, a light matte green that will make the room feel larger than it is. Modern home library design trends are heavily focused on dark, moody colors, but if you want the room to feel bigger, it’s important to stick to a lighter shade for the ceiling. The sage tint ceiling, duck egg sofa, geometric curtains and mirror work together to add a fresh touch to the dark interior of the library.

Metallic accents bounce extra light around the space to create a brighter room. Furthermore, the luxurious finishes create a sophisticated, curated look that complements the client’s collection of classic novels. The built-in library is also the focal wall in the room with a contemporary art piece drawing attention to the bookshelf’s center.

Now the library has privacy without sacrificing style with youthful but sophisticated trellis pattern curtains. Before, the dark bookcase was one dimensional. To add some much-needed depth, Michelle used the same sage color of the ceiling on the shelving unit. A globe chandelier provides warmth and glamour to the masculine undertone of the library, while an arched floor lamp draws the eye inward. A gilt mirror, sequence scatter, and brass accent pieces like the Martini Side Table transform the family room into an interior that is more than just comfortable.
