Project Description

I need designs for the my family room. We have a new TV that we would like to mount over the fireplace. However, the mantle was too high so we have torn down the mantle and tiles around the fireplace and have lined up a contractor who will make a new mantle, tile the fireplace and hang the TV. I am taking this opportunity to redo the whole room. I am looking forward to a completely new room and willing to buy - sectional/couch/chairs, table s(console, coffee, side), rug, lights, wall decor, window treatment and also do media built-ins on either side of the fireplace. I do not have pets. my household consists of me, my husband and our two boys - ages 7 and 10. I am looking for a beautiful, functional, cozy family room that is great for - family time, TV watching, and entertaining. Some of the things my husband I would love to have:
- nice cozy sectional
- plenty of seating
- tables to keep drinks, books etc
- have some color/fun elements
- minimalist window treatment (allow as much light as possible)
- resilient fabrics
- choose tile for fireplace and mantle design
- design media cabinets around the fireplace.

What do you currently dislike about the room?

The sectional was placed to face the TV (on Wall #2). This created restricted access to the room from the kitchen as the back of the sectional would block the entrance. Also, the room does not have enough console tables for people to keep drinks etc when we entertain. Also, I feel that there is wasted space in the room (especially near the sliders). We do not use the family room sliding door to go to the deck as we have another set of sliders in the kitchen. There is no seating except the sectionals and 2 ottomans. Walls are bare and so are the windows. I do not like anything about this room really :(

What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?

TV will stay. The wall color is Bleeker Beige by Benjamin Moore (HC 80). Since the family room flows into the kitchen we have the same color in both rooms. I would like to keep the same wall color if possible, but not opposed to re-painting if needed. I am also uploading the two tiles samples that we have selected so far. If you like one of these for tile surrounding the fireplace, that is great. If you have a better tile selection, I am willing to go with that. Everything else can go.
Regarding the floor covering question - I am not sure if the rug was implied or actual wooden floors. The rug can go...we got the wood floors refinished a couple years ago, so I will not be able to change the wooden floors.

Living Room:

Using lighter colors in your medium-sized room will make it feel more airy and bright

For your main color, we chose to use warm gray because it is neutral and seen as elegant and classy. It compliments many colors such as white, blue, and yellow and works well as part of a color scheme in any room.

Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
