The layout - I've struggled with it since we bought the house. The room is a long rectangle with an off-centered fireplace right across the doorway to the kitchen. I want to fit a big comfy couch (we like to have family movie night) in the room but haven't been able to come up with a layout that works.

The fireplace is in need of a serious makeover. It's a non-working fireplace that we will convert to gas sometime in the future (not for a long time). It's the focal point of the whole house.

The windows need shades or curtains for privacy, to block glare from the TV, and for some decor. Any shades need to be cordless.

What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?:

No pieces must stay but if the following work in the design please use them.

If you can keep the couch in the design (but not as the only couch because it's too small and just not the comfy cozy couch I want) that'd be great.

I also have a TV console, but I've never been in love with that. Unfortunately the couch and the console were both fairly pricey, so that's the only reason I'm having a hard time letting go.

Please keep the coffee table if you can.

Since your room gets plenty of sunlight your color options are quite broad.

For your main color, we chose to use gray because it is neutral and seen as elegant and classy. It compliments many colors such as white, blue, and yellow and works well as part of a color scheme in any room.

Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
