My husband and I are moving into a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath home in CT. There are several design projects that we are interested in taking on, but first, we would like to start with our ground floor living spaces. The family room has a big wall, with vaulted ceilings and a fireplace that we are thinking of painting white. The formal living room and formal dining room will have our current furniture but we're interested in changing the various light fixtures around the house and painting.

We're looking for color palette ideas and paint ideas for all rooms including potential furniture and light fixtures. Thank you so much for your help.

Notes from meeting:

Today was our closing. Moving in soon.

My family room has vaulted ceiling and is large. Fireplace off center. We need to update the fire place by modernizing it. Open to ideas.

We used Decorilla in the past. We like the 3D rendering.

We want a combination of modern and rustic. West Elm is a great fit us. We have selected a large sectional already which is off white with a bit of dark brown. The company is Arhaus.

We have no pets but expecting a baby. Want to use the room as a gathering point for entertaining and quality time. The walls are brownish and need brightening up.

I want to get started quickly.

The fireplace feels dated, and it's not centered in the room. We don't like the current wall color, we would like to lighten and brighten up the room more.

What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?:

None - we want to change all the light fixtures (except the recessed lighting). We would also love a chandelier in the room if possible.

Below we listed some pieces of furniture that we purchased from our last decorilla project that we think could fit into our family room. We'd love to find out if any of these pieces would work in here, since there won't be a lot of room in our other rooms for all of those pieces. Also open to new suggestions and alternatives for everything!

Since your room gets plenty of sunlight your color options are quite broad.

For your main color, we chose to use gray because it is neutral and seen as elegant and classy. It compliments many colors such as white, blue, and yellow and works well as part of a color scheme in any room.

Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
