Just moved into a new house. Current furniture not working. We were looking at a new leather sofa at Room and Board, but then thought it would make sense to consult on making our narrow living room as functional as possible. We have future plans for a fireplace install in that room as well, so designing a surround/mantle for it is also something we are looking for..

What do you currently dislike about the room?:

The bay window, but that’s not going to change. Currently, our sectional takes up too much space. Also, the front door opens into the living room, making organization and storage a challenge to keep it from being a “dumping” area.

What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?:

I have plans to include a simple bench banquette, possible with a tall, narrow floor to ceiling built in cabinet in the corner for additional storage. I love my dining table...it is an amazing antique from Belgium. I also love my mid century dining chairs (recently covered in a dark navy vinyl). We have 2 tall white cabinets from IKEA. I don’t love them, but they are storing a lot of stuff for us! We would like to put in a gas fireplace on the TV wall, taking space from the room behind it...there is the potential to take space for built ins to the right of the TV, but not the left (that’s my tiny kitchen). We need a place for books, barware, etc. I have some art that I like, but I am also up for new. I posted some examples of art from Zatista that I like.

This a small space that we use everyday. It is important that it be livable as well as beautiful. Comfort is important. We are looking at new sofas. Right now I am very fond of brown leather (I have been looking at the Jasper@ Room & Board). I hate sticky drawers and prefer quality furniture. I love a good craigslist find! My tastes tend to run eclectic and tribal. I love walking into a house that uses color in unexpected ways...it makes me happy. I love art. I have recently discovered Zatista. We are pet people. We currently have a cat, but will be getting a puppy this summer (possible two!). We can be messy if things don’t have a place.
