Coastal Home with a Modern Lanai Design Project Description
We are building a new home and want it to feel like our oasis. We will have a large outdoor lanai with a pool and integrated spa. We would like the outdoor space to feel like a natural extension of the indoor ambiance. Our style is modern/contemporary with a beach/spa component. We sent Devin a link to several photos to give you a flavor of our style. In addition, we shared a link to the floor plan with room dimensions.We do not want heavy fabrics as I have a dust mite allergen. But we would like fabrics on the furniture that are durable and can be easily cleaned if someone spills their food/drink. It might be worth noting that this shouldn’t be a common issue. We have no children or pets, so design elements with kids and creatures in mind is unnecessary 😊.
Although we want this space to feel comfortable and not too formal, we appreciate if furniture, accessories and other treatments carry a clean, crisp look with neat lines. But again, with a comfortable, relaxed component so the things still feel warm and homey.
For that reason, we really like the appearance of lighter, beachy looking woods strategically incorporated throughout. For example, treatments within a tray ceiling, feature walls, etc. We are planning to incorporate some type of warm, engineered hardwood throughout most of the main living spaces.
We are also interested in adding textural design features to some walls, built-ins and ceiling feature (e.g., beams, wood that matches the floor, ship-lap, etc. – or a new idea that we’re not aware of). Essentially, elements that tie the entire space together. My husband’s hobby is wood working and he would appreciate any help on wood-based design features (painted or natural) that can be added to select walls, ceilings, etc. over time.
We’re very open to new ideas and look forward to meeting a designer who can push us out of our comfort zone and provide ideas on how to cohesively blend a warm, relaxing environment with a style that has a visual impact. At the same time, we want to be practical, incorporating a mix of quality pieces where it makes sense and lower-cost items in spots where it’s not as important.

The two pieces of furniture are items that my husband built. The table is black walnut and the wine/liquor storage is temporary. He originally built this for an office and then decided to place it in the dinette. The side table is made with cherry with curly maple wood. We don't have to incorporate these items but wanted to share them with you. Are you open to changing your wall colors?

See the project description. We have a meeting with the builder on Friday, 8/26 to select the interior finishes (cabinets, countertops, hardware, flooring, etc.). While the plans may not be complete by this date, we would like to have a conversation with the designer on what we have selected before this meeting to get their feedback.

We want this space to be our sanctuary and an extension of our interior living space. We would like to have the following rooms incorporated into this space:• Outdoor kitchen. One idea is to have the kitchen cabinets/appliances wrap around a bit from the knee wall that’s located on the South side. The location is also marked on the attached drawing. Maybe after making the turn it can flow into an area allowing for bar stools/counter.
• Dinette table under roof within proximity to the outdoor kitchen
• Living space under roof to relax and watch TV
• Lounge chairs by the pool for sunbathing (right side of pool)
• Other areas that we’re open to and would like to get your input on
* Different type of sitting area – could be comfortable chairs with a firepit. We’re not 100% sold on this so need your help to come up with cool ideas that push us outside of our comfort area
* Area on the other side of the pool for yard games – again we’re not sold on this – just trying to give you an idea that we’re open to your ideas
There will be a lot of paver stones and we thought about incorporating some artificial grass to break it up to create some defined areas. Open to your ideas. The paver stones are marble slate (grey color).
We live in Naples and the furniture will be outside all year. The kitchen/living space will be under a roof and the rest of the space will be under a screened cage. We want pieces that will withstand the outside elements and easy to maintain. We will need ideas for large fans under the roof area and want recessed lights.
We met with the pool company and made the tile selections for the pool. These selections are the photos that I uploaded. The spa will be level with the pool. I included a floor plan of the outdoor space.
