Surya in a curated living room by Decorilla designer, Danielle E.

What makes a home décor brand worth specifying across multiple projects? Designers return to sources that offer consistent quality and enough catalog range to serve different scales of work. Surya has spent nearly fifty years building both. Let’s have a closer look at Surya and its impressive range of stylish home products.

Surya. A Full-Spectrum Home Décor Brand.

Surya began in 1976 when founder Surya Tiwari, then producing hand-knotted rugs in northern India, crossed paths with a buyer from what is now Macy’s. That early relationship set the terms for what the company would become: a manufacturer rooted in artisan production but scaled for American retail. A US division followed in 1986, and under Satya Tiwari’s leadership since 2006, the Surya product catalog has grown well past its original focus on floor coverings.

Few rug manufacturers work across the full production spectrum. Surya does: hand-knotted, hand-tufted, hand-loomed, hand-woven flatweave, machine-made, and braided constructions all appear in the catalog, produced across facilities in India, Turkey, Egypt, Belgium, and China. The company now ranks among the top three rug manufacturers in the United States, supported by a network of over 50,000 artisans whose work gives the collection its material range.

Surya furniture and Surya lighting entered the catalog as part of a broader shift toward full-room coordination. Pendant fixtures, accent seating, case goods, and textiles now sit alongside the rug collections, sharing production values and design language. Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams and Global Views are among the partnerships currently in place, and upcoming Decorilla articles will examine each collaboration in detail.

For designers working on residential and hospitality projects, Surya offers a single-source catalog that is deep enough to carry a room.

Surya Rugs

Organized by construction and aesthetic, Surya rugs collections make it easy to match style and durability requirements to the room in question. Consider using power-loomed lines in high-traffic residential and commercial settings. Hand-knotted pieces work best in spaces where texture and longevity justify the investment.

From Shag to Sheen

  • Plush Sacramento Shag: Soft underfoot and visually quiet, this shag works great in spaces where you want to avoid pattern competition. Layer it beneath a low-slung sectional or let it anchor a reading corner where bare feet will appreciate the pile depth.
  • Lustrous Nobility: Wool and viscose give the surface a sheen that traditional all-wool pieces lack. The pattern reads heritage, but the high-low texture keeps it from feeling dated. Consider it for a living room where the furniture runs contemporary and the rug can carry the history.
  • Graphic Arsenal: Flat, unfussy, and high-contrast. The black and cream palette holds its own under modern furniture, as well as a statement Art Deco accent. Low pile means dining chairs slide easily, and the wool cleans up better than most synthetics over time.

Global & Timeless

  • Moody Wanderlust: Machine-woven in Turkey, this abstract design speaks unmistakably contemporary. The dark ground absorbs light, which makes it a grounding element in rooms with a lot of visual activity. Pair it with lighter furniture to let it anchor, or go tonal and let the texture do the work.
  • Timeless Amore Round: A round format in controlled multicolor, woven in Turkey with traditional motifs softened by a contemporary palette. The shape breaks up rectangular furniture arrangements and works well under a pedestal table, in a reading corner,  or in an entry where a runner would feel too predictable.
  • Eclectic Bryant: Hand-woven jute out of India, flat and braided with an organic, global sensibility. The construction reads earthy and modern at once; it’s equally at home in a boho-inflected living room or a pared-back space. Like most other Surya rugs, it’s durable underfoot and ages well over time.

Colorful or Graphic? Both!

  • Retro Joan: Hand-tufted polyester designed with a mid-century eye. The vintage palette and pattern scale pair naturally with Eames-era furniture or postwar Danish pieces. You can use it as a compact accent in an entry or office.
  • Bestselling Hightower: A consistent favorite in the Surya catalog is made of hand-knotted viscose from India. Its distinct surface sheen catches light and shifts through the day. The pattern walks a line between traditional geometry and minimalist restraint, which is one of the reasons it works in so many rooms.
  • Rustic Lexington: Hand-woven leather and cotton from India, flat and textured. Well-suited to farmhouse or cabin aesthetics, where a wool rug might feel too refined. No pile means easy maintenance under dining furniture or in high-traffic corridors.

Surya Furniture

The furniture catalog of Surya now exceeds a thousand pieces. You will find accent chairs and swivel seating that suit smaller living spaces, as well as oversized sofas and sectionals to anchor larger rooms. Case goods also cover an impressive spectrum, and run from mango wood and marble to rattan and brass.

Seating With Flair

  • Plush & Teal: A sofa that commits to color. The teal polyester upholstery sits on a lacquered rubber wood base. The silhouette is clean enough for most contemporary room styles. It also has enough visual weight to anchor a seating arrangement on its own.
  • Sculptural Accent Chair: Stainless steel base beneath chenille upholstery—the material contrast does most of the work here. The proportions run generous, closer to a lounge piece than a perching chair. Position it where the steel catches light from a window or floor lamp.
  • Woven Bench: Cotton-topped with a wood base, made in India with the same artisan sensibility that runs through Surya’s textile work. This global-inflected design fits end-of-bed placement in a primary suite or works as extra seating in an entry where a chair would crowd the space.

Round It Up

  • Marble-Topped Novelle: Stone surface on an iron base with acacia wood detailing, made in India. The 24-inch square footprint gives it presence beside a sofa arm or between a pair of reading chairs. Tabletops like this age well and handle the inevitable water rings from glasses better than most finishes.
  • Trendy Luzerne: Tinted violet glass on an electroplated brass base commits to being noticed. On top of that, colored glass speaks to one of the top furniture trends of 2026. The proportions also suit tight corners or narrow gaps between furniture where a standard side table would crowd the layout.
  • Versatile Ottoman: A substantial piece whose design puts it in range for resting feet or serving as a coffee table substitute. Add a tray, and it holds drinks and books as well as any table. In a living room without a traditional coffee table, it softens the center of the seating arrangement while still providing ample surface area.

Dapper Dining

  • Chair With Personality: Clean lines and a curved backrest invite longer sits at the table. The rubber wood base provides the kind of stability dining chairs need when pulled in and out daily, while the ash wood veneer seat and back carry visible grain that warms with age.
  • Statement in a Small Package: This format suits confined dining areas or breakfast nooks where a rectangular table would dominate. Its proportions, however, seat four comfortably at daily meals. The stained finish also shows grain variation that keeps the surface visually interesting under different lighting.
  • Oak Sideboard: From the Becki Owens collaboration, 64 inches wide with brown-stained oak veneer and leather-wrapped handles. The silhouette reads transitional—clean enough for contemporary spaces, warm enough for traditional dining rooms. Position it opposite the table to balance the room and give serving pieces a staging surface during meals.

Surya Lighting

Table lamps, floor lamps, pendants, chandeliers, and wall sconces make up the Surya lighting catalog. Glass and iron dominate the ceiling fixtures; ceramic, concrete, and natural fibers appear in the table and floor lines. Fixture sizes range from compact pendants under ten inches to chandeliers scaled for double-height entries.

The Hanging Glow

  • Diffuse Halo: This is one of the trendiest lighting styles of 2026. Light passes through the tinted glass shade and disperses across its surface, forming a calm, continuous field. The fixture reads softly in space, with edges that stay visually quiet.
  • Focused Drop: A tight silhouette defines the Holloman, keeping its presence compact and deliberate. The beam falls straight down, which makes spacing and alignment the primary design tools when used in sequence. It suits counters and bars that rely on repetition to establish structure.
  • Even Reach: Arms extend from a central hub, setting a clear radial order. This way, the light spreads outward to cover the full footprint of the room. The scale holds comfortably above dining tables or central zones that require consistent coverage across width and depth.

Right Where You Need It

  • Extended Arc: The arm projecting outward from a compact base places light away from its footprint. This geometry allows the lamp to service seating zones of all kinds. Useful next to sofas or lounge chairs where you need task lighting to land precisely over a reading plane.
  • Vertical Column: A straight, upright form defines Ivel’s presence in the room. Light originates near eye level and holds its position, making the lamp effective beside occasional chairs or along walls where circulation stays clear. The narrow scale also keeps it compatible with layered lighting schemes.
  • Lateral Balance: Niamey’s head shifts off the central axis, introducing a sideways cast that activates nearby surfaces. This offset creates usable light without centering the fixture in the seating arrangement. Works well in corners or next to low furniture where light needs a close reach.

Alluring Ambiance

  • Contained Glow: The light source that sits close to the base keeps illumination concentrated within a tight radius. This containment makes the lamp effective on side tables, consoles, or nightstands where ambient light supports the room’s scheme. The scale also allows it to layer comfortably with floor and overhead sources.
  • Surface Wash: Egerton’s light spreads outward from the shade and settles across nearby planes. Use it on shelving where illumination reads as background. This lamp pairs well with darker wall finishes that benefit from gentle light dispersion.
  • Wall Cast: Mounted along the wall, Tibby elegantly defines circulation paths and edges. This sconce marks the surface with reflected light. It works well for corridors or bedside placements, where this repetition establishes cadence along the vertical plane.

Surya Home Accessories

Pillows, throws, poufs, bedding, and wall décor round out the offer. The textile lines are produced primarily in India, with down-filled pillows and hand-woven throws crafted by the same artisan network that supplies the rug collections. Materials include cotton and wool blends, with finishes ranging from tufted textures to tassel and fringe detailing.

As Cozy as It Gets

  • Plush Pouf: White bouclé in a compact 18-inch cube, polybead fill that gives when you sit. The polyester top and cotton bottom construction means durability for multifunctional daily use. The removable cover also simplifies cleaning.
  • Trendy Faux Fur Throw: Acrylic face with polyester backing is sized to drape a sofa arm or fold across a bed. The camel and taupe colorway warms neutral rooms, while the shaggy texture catches light differently depending on how it falls. Spot clean only; but the reverse in charcoal and gray means either side works visually.
  • Textural Shinola: Hand-woven in India, this square in light gray reads neutral enough for most sofas. At the same time, its surface texture adds dimension cushions in flat weaves simply can’t. At 18 inches square, it layers well with larger shapes or holds its own on an accent chair.

Decor That Speaks

  • Elegant Vase Set: Two ceramic floor vases in cream and white are scaled to work as a pair or positioned separately across a room. The silhouettes complement each other without matching exactly. It’s this variation that keeps arrangements from looking staged.
  • Geometric Bookends: Indian marble, sold as a pair, each piece measuring 6 inches square by 2 inches deep. The material does the work here—natural veining means no two sets look identical. Weight holds books upright without sliding, while the contemporary geometry suits modern shelving or adds contrast against traditional woodwork.
  • Nesting Trays: Three trays in graduated sizes are made of wood with a gloss finish in white and wheat tones. Spread them across a coffee table, or use the largest separately for ottoman service. Then stack them for easy storage when not in use.

Refined Reflections

  • Edge Frame: Imelda’s refined frame sets a clear perimeter, giving the mirror a defined visual boundary on the wall. Reflection stays contained, so it reads as an object with placement weight, not a background surface.
  • Expanded Field: The Inverness mirror opens the wall plane and extends sightlines across the room. Mounted above a console or sideboard, it increases perceived depth and light reach through reflection. Its scale supports use in larger rooms where the mirror participates in the spatial layout.
  • Vertical Emphasis: Proportion drives this piece. The taller orientation draws the eye upward and elongates the wall surface. It works well in narrow zones such as hallways or anywhere you could use some vertical alignment to promote visual balance.

Why Surya Stands Out

Surya’s catalog runs from traditional Persian-inspired motifs to modern abstracts and global geometric patterns, with each collection maintaining a distinct identity. The material palette is equally broad. Wool dominates the hand-knotted and hand-tufted lines, often blended with cotton or jute; viscose and synthetic blends appear in specialty pieces designed for sheen and texture. This range allows designers to source across style categories and price points from a single manufacturer—a practical advantage when coordinating rooms or specifying for projects at scale.

Production ethics inform the company’s operations at multiple levels. Over 50,000 artisans work within Surya’s supply chain, and the company invests directly in their training and professional development. OEKO-TEX certification covers portions of the catalog, ensuring those products meet established standards for chemical safety. Surya also prioritizes biodegradable and sustainable fibers, from jute to Tencel, and maintains partnerships with nonprofit organizations focused on education and healthcare in the communities where production takes place.
