Project Description:

We are hoping to tie in the main entry way and living room to the overall style/theme of the house, which is a traditional farmhouse (25 acres, barn, cabin, etc.). My husband prefers a more rustic look; however, I am more eclectic and am not tied to a specific "look" and wouldn't mind potentially reusing some of my current pieces.

We are starting with just the entry way and living room, but will eventually make our way throughout the rest of the house. So please don't worry as much about "matching" the other rooms that you see in some of these photos (in fact, this is why we intentionally omitted pictures from other rooms). The kitchen is the one are that will likely stay somewhat similar for now, and since it is right next door to the living room we included some pictures so you could get a feel for what the "room to room" look would be like.

Lastly, we do have large dogs. So please take that into consideration with materials and what have you.

One thing I’ve struggled with is the outside of the house vs the inside of the house. From outside it is a very traditional farmhouse. And I *love* that. However, the previous owners had styled the interior a bit more "fancy" than what I or what I believe the house wants ; )

The entry’s lighting fixtures are very strange in my opinion. I suppose the balcony itself is causing some of the issue since it is itself not centered to the room. However, there are three hanging lights in the corners that seem even more problematic. We are considering removing them completely and just patching over but would really appreciate direction on this.

Storage in the living room seems like it will be a bit of an issue, so addressing that would be wonderful.

We also own two large dogs. Hair and durability are incredibly important aspects of our life. We appreciate things that are easy to keep clean and that can withstand some everyday “abuse”. While I’m currently obsessed with green velvet sofas, I have to acknowledge that I really can’t have them because of the dogs. BUT perhaps a chair? In addition, rugs that camouflage the life of pet owners is also important.

Since your room gets plenty of sunlight your color options are quite broad.

For your main color, we chose to use white/off-white as it offers a fresh, clean, feel to the space. White and off-white colors are often a favorite for walls because they are light, neutral, and match most color schemes. They are known to make rooms feel more airy and spacious.

Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
