We would like to use Ikea cabinets. That's the only criteria. Also add cabinets to the side wall, the one opposite the windows.

I think I am leaning towards the lighter cabinet...I was thinking lighter when I first started looking at this space, so that's where my preference is! Okay sounds good on the coffee nook. Shall I switch that out on the left wall? You are still gaining a lot of storage with upper and lower cabinets, but I think it will feel more balanced with the countertop and backsplash there to break things up! :) LMK!

Let’s try the lighter and see how it looks. Also, I think you were right about the coffee nook!! It breaks up the hugeness of the cabinets on the left hand side. Do you prefer one cabinet color over the other?

Kitchen:

Since your room gets plenty of sunlight your color options are quite broad.

For your main cabinet color, we chose to use gray because it is a great transitional color that will last for years to come.

If you do end up painting your IKEA cabinets, use a semi-gloss paint finish as it is ideal for bathrooms and cabinets. It has a slight shine and is easy to clean.
