Design
- We enjoy contemporary and elegant design, but not overly contemporary. We want the room to feel warm and inviting, after all it is the family room.

- There is a beautiful yard outside, and we have a pool that is open in the summer. So we would like to bring in a coastal, resort feel to the room. (not overly coastal, so that it doesn’t look out of place in the winter). We would like the room to feel airy, and emphasize (or at least not distract too much from) the windows and the outside view. We are not a big fan of clutter and too many pieces in the room.

- We like organic and earthy elements. For example: a tree stump as a side table; a piece of coral for a console table; travertine stone for the fireplace facade; plants

- Media Wall: Would like a white media center to hold 65” TV, books and artifacts. While the Built in bookcase picture we included contains a built-in media, we don’t know if that will be too expensive. We are open to having a TV media/bookcase combination, as long as the scale is appropriate for the large room.

- We like to have books in the room. Maybe there is place to have shelves and a small reading bench

- We would like to bring some elements of fun/interest to the room. Some ideas that we were thinking of:
Hanging Chair: Would love to have a hanging chair in the room
Color: We would like pops of color
Something with architectural interest

- Child: We have an eighteen-month old boy. The room has to be kid friendly.

- Seating: We would like an arrangement that gives a good amount of seating, and it is inviting. We were thinking of an L Shaped section, but we had a hard time finding it. The closest we came was a sectional at Crate&Barrel - A xis II. http://www.crateandbarrel.com/axis-ii-3-piece-sectional-sofa/s482743
We really liked the color Nickel and the material, but 1) we found the seating too deep at 43’’ and 2) we were worried that this sectional will look too bulky in the room. We found generally that seating depths in the range 36’’-40’’ worked best for us, but of course it depends on the pillows.

- Fireplace: We will be selecting this beige tile

It will be from floor to ceiling. We are required to select a hearth stone that will be 60” wide and 14” deep. We are thinking of selecting this black slate.

We thought about a simple distressed railroad tie rectangular block but are open to other ideas.

Using lighter colors in your medium-sized room will make it feel more airy and bright

For your main color, we chose to use white/off-white as it offers a fresh, clean, feel to the space. White and off-white colors are often a favorite for walls because they are light, neutral, and match most color schemes. They are known to make rooms feel more airy and spacious.

Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
