Transform my Space Project Description
I recently retired (age 59) and am moving from Houston to rural Illinois to a house (ranch, built '92) that I own and previously lived. Would like to renovate to a style that I would enjoy. My immediate interest is in the kitchen and living room; eventually moving to the rest of the house. I am open significant layout change (move wall, replace fireplace, move - add lighting etc).
I'd like the same flooring extending throughout living, entry, and dining space.
I'd like to start with the kitchen. Since we can open up the kitchen into the living room, I think we need to figure that part out first.

Would like to open up the area between the kitchen and living room to an "open concept". Would like to modify or completely replace the fireplace area. Sun shines directly into the windows on either side of the fireplace making TV viewing difficult.

I'd like to incorporate an eat-in kitchen space with chairs and tables. This space needs to be accommodating to disability where possible (legs).
Exterior wall faces south, love the winter sunlight!
Window moves/change-outs are an option.
Lighting needs improvement. I'd like to have a wall oven, but it's not a requirement. I'd prefer a gas cooktop. I'm open to a tile backsplash.
I'm open to opening up wall to living area and adding in a larger island with seating.
I'd like to incorporate entry to future sunroom through doors that open to the outside.
I need someone to think about where to place a pantry cabinet.
Would like to consider converting the east end of the kitchen opening to the sunroom to dining area. Need guidance on this.

It seems too small for the current service of a laundry room. As well, I would like a small 1/2 bath ( pedestal sink and toilet) in place of the pantry. I think perhaps the pantry dimensions could be reduced to make the mudroom larger. I don't like the hall entry to the kitchen and would like to build out into the mudroom. I don't know if this is possible however, given the constraints of the current layout. If it could be larger, I could keep the laundry service there. If not i will need to move it to a room which is currently a small bedroom. Are you open to changing your wall colors?

For your main color, we chose to use gray because it is neutral and seen as elegant and classy. It compliments many colors such as white, blue, and yellow and works well as part of a color scheme in any room.
Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
