Tranquil Urban Living Interior Design Project Description
I am a first time homeowner in Manhattan. I’m looking for my home to be a calm retreat from my job & from the City. I would like my space to be light, warm and inviting. I prefer neutrals with lots of texture. I am moving into a mid century alcove studio with lots of light. I like natural materials and I’m drawn to the simplicity, functionality and the use of void space in Scandinavian and wabi sabi / Japanese design. I also appreciate Parisian design and the balance between classic and contemporary. I would like to have a space feels refined and curated, with an interesting mix and layers that is not tied to one specific style. Because it is a studio, it would be great to include functional furniture and a piece that provides storage. My lighting situation is a challenge because I have concrete ceilings without an overhead lighting junction box in my space.

Additional comments to designers
I would like to incorporate modular L shaped banquette seating with a round tulip table. I have a concrete ceiling and no overhead light junction boxes. There is a heating / cooling unit right under the window. This makes hanging curtains a challenge. I don't need to have a TV. It would be nice to incorporate a small work area in this space.I also like shearling / boucle and perhaps there is an opportunity to include an accent chair in that material.

Since your room gets plenty of sunlight your color options are quite broad.
For your main color, we chose to use white/off-white as it offers a fresh, clean, feel to the space. White and off-white colors are often a favorite for walls because they are light, neutral, and match most color schemes. They are known to make rooms feel more airy and spacious.
Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
