For your main color, we chose to use brown as it reminds us of nature and has a relaxing quality which is easy on the eye. Darker browns work well as accent colors and lighter hues like tan and beige can match and unify most rooms.
Use a matte finish paint because it will be helpful in camouflaging those surface imperfections such as bumps and cracks as it does not reflect light. Just be careful because matte finish is more difficult to clean. You may also need to touch up scratches or marks by adding more of the same paint in the future.

The bedside tables and dresser need to go; they're very old and dark. I'm missing a rug. I don't want to mess with changing the roller shades, but if room darkening curtains could be part of the project, that would be great; there's a lot of light outside at night that I try to block out. I don't use the tv and plan to get rid of it. I don't even really need the dresser. I'm over the furry pillows and pouf; I like textures, but I don't think those were ever my favorite. I'm also over the duvet cover.
What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?:
I like the wood art on the wall. I still like the bed if you can work around it. The lamps are still good if you can work around them, but I know they can completely change the mood, so I'm open to a change. The cedar chest (painted navy) needs to stay.
