Project Description

We are moving into a new townhome and would like help with our color palette, visualizing how different layouts work, and finding furniture and decor pieces that suit our style. We'd like our living room to balance both beauty + style and comfort + function. For example, we'd like our couch to face the tv so we can sit back and comfortably enjoy a movie. We'd like to brighten up the space and make it feel more open and inviting. The living room space is a bit awkward (long and narrow), so we're having a hard time figuring out the best way to fill it with furniture / decor.

What do you currently dislike about the room?

The wall color really darkens the room and we like bright spaces. We plan to paint everything white, likely Simply White, but we are open to suggestions.

The hardwood color is outdated and too yellow, so we are staining it to a more natural looking wood color.

The chandeliers are definitely very outdated so we would like to replace those with more modern light fixtures.

We'd like to remove the blinds on the windows and have curtains instead.

We’d like to explore what it would look like to create an arch (instead of the square) on the shared dining room and kitchen wall.

What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?

The built in bookshelves - though we'd like to explore how to make them a prettier / more interesting feature.

The railings - however, we'd like to explore what black balusters might look like instead.

Using lighter colors in your medium-sized room will make it feel more airy and bright

For your main color, we chose to use white/off-white as it offers a fresh, clean, feel to the space. White and off-white colors are often a favorite for walls because they are light, neutral, and match most color schemes. They are known to make rooms feel more airy and spacious.

Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
