For your main color, we chose to use white/off-white as it offers a fresh, clean, feel to the space. White and off-white colors are often a favorite for walls because they are light, neutral, and match most color schemes. They are known to make rooms feel more airy and spacious.
Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish

We don’t have any furniture or decorations for these spaces yet, aside from a TV. We've made some design decisions, but nothing is permanent yet.
The house is for me, my wife, and our cats, and we occasionally have guests over. Most of the time, we just relax in the living room, which we’ll use to watch TV on workdays. For weekends, we have a dedicated theater being built for movie nights. My wife also likes to read books in the living room sometimes.

The coffee bar will be used for coffee, tea and drinks. There will be a small sink. There will be a small beverage fridge. There will be 3 offset shelves on the wall above the counter. These will be dark stained (peppercorn) similar to the other stained wood/cabinets. There is a soffit on the wall down to 12’. We were planning to put a couple recessed lights in the soffits and then some puck lights in the wall shelves. The tile will be the same tile as the rest of the backsplash in the kitchen.
There will be 2 wood beams on the ceiling extending through the kitchen into the dining room. These will be stained dark (peppercorn?).
I like to cook, so the kitchen needs to be as functional as possible. We have a runner in our current kitchen and like it.
I really wanted advice on what to do with all that extra space above the cabinets. Should we do uplighting? Textured wall or paneling? Decorative acoustic paneling? I would rather not do floating shelves or too complex decorations up there.

This finish is often used for windows, doors, trim, and ceilings, but can also be ideal walls in kids’ rooms, bathrooms, kitchens and other high-traffic areas because it is easier to clean than eggshell finish.
