Project Description:

Hi,

My husband and I newly bought this house. We have a 1.5 year old boy and 2 cats. I have 2 rooms that I need help for now.
One is combined living room//formal dining room. It is spacious with a fireplace and high ceiling. Some other things/areas I also prefer to have in the room include: window seat, bookshelf, a reading corner (for both me and the little one) and if possible, a small painting set and a music stand for violin.
The other one is combined family room/casual dining room. I want this room to also include a child play area. The dining set is optional only as we already have a sizable kitchen counter dining.
I'm thinking the first room as a quiet room and the second room as a more dynamic active room. Cat furniture can be in either rooms. These are my preliminary thoughts and I'm open for discussions and changes. The design should be homey. Function is more important to me than anything else. We are also working with a contractor so can do more complex projects as well if needed. I hope I'm at the right place to find help. Thank you.

Using lighter colors in your medium-sized room will make it feel more airy and bright

For your main color, we chose to use gray because it is neutral and seen as elegant and classy. It compliments many colors such as white, blue, and yellow and works well as part of a color scheme in any room.

Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
