Project Description

I have a small house and want my front room to be a combination home office/sitting room. The room is 14x18. There's a fireplace in the room. I like coastal, airy vibes as I live in Florida. A pop of color here and there would be great.

I have attached a few photos for inspiration. In the first photo, I like the sitting area setup and I love the gold shelves in the background. In the second photo, I like the look of the desk and some of the shelving. In the third photo, I like the whole setup and the style of the desk. In the 4th photo I kind of like the setup of the desk behind the couch.

What do you currently dislike about the room?

Right now we're undergoing a renovation so the room has bathroom reno stuff in it, that will be moved soon. We just moved into this house and it's small, but I want it to look nice and don't mind spending a little money on the decor. Right now, this room doesn't get a ton of sunlight, so I don't love that. It's an old house so the ceilings are only 8 feet, which also isn't great. The fireplace has spanish tile around it which won't be changed out just yet and I don't love that either.

What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?

I uploaded an image of an old wooden radio that has been in my family for years. It doesn't exactly go with what I'm trying to achieve, which is light and bright, but I'd like to try to keep it in the room if possible.

Additional comments to designers

I really like the look of rooms on the Serena and Lily website, I like Ballard Designs and I also like West Elm. I don't like a lot of clutter, but I do want some shelving included so that I can display pictures, books, etc. I would like a nice desk and chair, but I don't want the chair to look like it belongs in an office, so something more home furniture like. I would also like a couple of sitting chairs or a small couch and a table. Basically, a light, bright, cheery sitting room/home office.

Since your room gets plenty of sunlight your color options are quite broad.

For your main color, we chose to use white/off-white as it offers a fresh, clean, feel to the space. White and off-white colors are often a favorite for walls because they are light, neutral, and match most color schemes. They are known to make rooms feel more airy and spacious.

Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
