Redo Family Room. This is a space that serves multiple purposes for us. It is a room that we gather to hang out as a family, as well as an area that we keep some toys for the kids. We have an open floor plan, so it connects directly to the kitchen and dining room. This room is also our primary access to our porch, and so it is important that we keep a nice flow between our kitchen and porch when this route is frequented during the summer months.

What do you currently dislike about the room?:
we're not crazy about the wall color. However, since it's an open floor plan, we're not sure what color will go with the other two rooms that are visible. (living room dark blue, and dining room, an orange). I included a shot that shows the view of all 3 rooms, so we are open to any suggestions. Also, we would like to see a different idea for the built-in's and wood stove mantle. We also don't like the shelving above the couch, or the couch layout.
What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?:
We (probably) want to keep the area rug. The picture over the wood stove doesn't necessarily have to stay, but it gets so hot up there that if we replace it, it would have to be with something made of wood. We've tried mirrors, and canvas's, and all have melted.
Are you open to changing your wall colors?:

Do you have a preference for either paint or wall covering, or are you open to both?:
We have not provided any wall colors, or accent colors because we are first interested in the designers thoughts on what colors will work with the existing rooms, as described above. We are open to both paint and other wall coverings. Thanks!

Using lighter colors in your medium-sized room will make it feel more airy and bright
For your main color, we chose to use gray because it is neutral and seen as elegant and classy. It compliments many colors such as white, blue, and yellow and works well as part of a color scheme in any room.
Use a matte finish paint because it will be helpful in camouflaging those surface imperfections such as bumps and cracks as it does not reflect light. Just be careful because matte finish is more difficult to clean. You may also need to touch up scratches or marks by adding more of the same paint in the future.
