The Challenge: Modern Parisian Decor for a City Apartment
A couple approached Decorilla with a distinctive interior design vision and a plan to rework their new home’s layout before moving in that summer. Antiques were central to their Parisian decor ideas, so they wanted to build the rooms around considered purchases. With the whole apartment open to revision, the designer’s tasks were to:

- Use 3D renderings to show how furniture choices would work at the apartment’s scale.
- Establish a furnishing plan that leaves scope for pieces collected over time.

Design Inspiration: Modern Parisian Interiors
The client’s visual references explored Parisian decor through rooms furnished across different periods. Antiques’ carved profiles established the shape of seating areas in their inspo images, while worn finishes invited closer attention. That sense of accumulated use clearly communicated their wish to display special pieces collected over time. Color schemes were also specified: jewel upholstery and faded rug patterns gave pale rooms a more intimate scale. Against plaster moldings, large abstract paintings introduced another way to work color into the apartment.
Beyond aesthetics, these modern Parisian interiors gave a few clues of how the clients wanted to lay the furniture to bring people together. Sofas mostly faced individual chairs across low tables, gathering the seating within conversation distance. Meanwhile, slender table frames kept more of the floor visible between upholstered pieces. Smaller occasional tables offered flexibility as the couple found antiques they wanted to bring home. For their shared living and dining room, this was also a good solution to define different areas.
Initial Concepts: Finding the Right Designer
Decorilla identified two professionals with strong track records for the project: Nathalie I. and Sarah R. Each developed a proposal around the couple’s interest in Parisian decor, giving them two furnished layouts to consider.
Nathalie’s moodboard placed a cream sectional within a framework of decorative wall moldings. Black door surrounds carried through to the dining furniture, while an ochre armchair introduced color beside the fireplace. An arched wet bar extended the cabinetry upward; concealed entryway doors followed the surrounding wall paneling.
Sarah R., meanwhile, arranged the living area around an eclectic core. A jewel velvet sofa and different armchair styles facing it across an oval table conveyed the collected-over-time flair the client wanted. A burlwood dining table brought pronounced grain into the scheme. Pattern appeared at several scales, from animal-print cushions to the Greek-key border beneath the dining chairs. Above the carved fireplace, a crystal chandelier reinforced the proposal’s Parisian interior style.
The clients chose Sarah’s concept to develop further: “This feels like us! We love the mix of pieces and can see how we’d keep adding our own finds. The layout gives us a clear place to start. We’re excited to move forward with you.”
Results Revealed: Parisian Decor in a Modern Interior
The final design gives the clients’ interest in collecting a defined architectural setting. Wall moldings establish proportions for the artwork, while repeated dark finishes connect furniture from different periods. Parisian decor meanwhile takes shape through the carved mantel and plaster ceiling medallions, with green upholstery carrying color across the seating area. The layout also addresses their request for a workable apartment plan: dining occupies the window end, and circulation passes behind the sofa.
Living Room With a Dining Area
Sarah’s mix of freestanding furniture gave the client’s interest in collecting a tangible direction, with space for a tall display cabinet beside the fireplace.
Within the living area, the tufted sectional faces the fireplace, its chaise extending towards the dining zone. The narrow stone console gives the sofa’s exposed back a finished edge, with a patterned stool tucked beneath it. An oval glass coffee table keeps the rug’s pattern visible and eases movement around the seating. Smaller animal prints pick up the rug’s dark markings; a shaded table lamp brings light down beside the upholstery.
Previously, another green sofa sat against a wall in a staged matching layout, with a rectangular glass table occupying the center of the seating group. The new arrangement turns attention towards the mantel and creates a passage along the opposite wall. Painting the existing ceiling beams dark makes their depth more apparent, while decorative medallions locate the two suspended fixtures. Dining retains its position by the windows, now marked by a circular rug whose border follows the table’s outline.
At that end of the room, the burlwood pedestal leaves sufficient space for four chairs beneath the tabletop. Their slender black frames echo the pendant overhead, linking the dining furniture to the room’s darker architectural details. The adjacent sideboard provides enclosed storage, though its width required careful coordination with the fireplace during implementation. After the couple marked its position with tape, Sarah recommended shifting the mantel roughly six inches to preserve separation between the zones.
Keeping an Eye for Detail
The gallery wall accommodates differently sized images within a single arrangement, giving the couple scope to introduce photographs from their own collection. Black frames hold the grouping together; pale mounts leave space around each image. Elsewhere, individual artworks sit close to objects with related forms, including a painted portrait beside a sculptural bust. Sarah also treated the accessory selections as flexible, offering to help place the couple’s existing pieces as they furnished the apartment.

Paris Interior Style in the Bedroom
The bedroom extends the apartment’s Parisian interior style through paneled walls, with a carved mantel anchoring a separate sitting area. Cream upholstery covers the largest furniture surfaces, leaving burgundy textiles to concentrate color around the bed. Across the room, figured wood gives the storage pieces enough presence to sit alongside the decorative plasterwork.
Accommodating the Peloton beside the dresser required particular attention to the bedroom’s measurements. Sarah checked the dimensions again, solved the issue, and revised the renderings.
The original bedroom gathered armchairs near the windows. In the revised layout, seating moves beside the mantel, freeing the window wall for a compact writing bureau. Full-length curtains give the tall openings a stronger vertical line and add adjustable privacy. The bed remains against the same wall, now framed by moldings that extend across the room and around the fireplace.
A slender metal frame outlines the upholstered bed, keeping its proportions defined. Above it, the horizontal landscape follows the headboard’s width and holds the artwork close to the furniture. Translucent amber glass lamp bases reduce the visual weight of the large shades. Three-drawer nightstands create a similar effect with raised legs exposing the floor beneath.
Near the windows, a small upholstered stool tucks beneath the bureau, keeping its footprint contained. The nearby burlwood chest spreads storage across six drawers, with brass knobs small enough to leave the grain largely uninterrupted.
Beside the bed, two curved armchairs turn slightly towards each other, bringing conversation into the bedroom’s sitting area. A round tray table places a shared surface between them, while the fringed ottoman provides a footrest closer to the mantel. Rust upholstery picks up the smaller rug’s red tones, marking this corner as a distinct part of the room. Above, the chandelier hangs over the seating group; its reflection in the mantel mirror brings the crystal detailing into view from the chairs.
Entryway Parisian Decor
The hallway introduces Parisian flair through a denser use of pattern, suited to its enclosed proportions. Ochre covers the upper walls, bounded by black wainscoting below and an ornamental cornice overhead. Underfoot, a runner’s broad turns remain distinct beneath the wallpaper’s smaller marks. Painting the door surrounds in the same dark finish connects the openings to this framework. Through the living room doorway, the black trim aligns visually with the ceiling beams beyond.
A marble-topped console provides a broad display surface on a shallow footprint. It spans more of the main focal wall, making fuller use of the space between the doorways. At the same time, the gold-toned ceiling catches light from the suspended fixture, adding detail to a surface previously left plain.
The console’s rounded ends also ease the approach beside the apartment‘s doorway, while the open brass frame exposes the paneling behind it. Above, a circular mirror brings the opposite end of the hall into view and gives the narrow space greater apparent depth. Shaded lamps place light at face height, useful when checking the mirror before leaving.
Design Details: Sourcing the Perfect Pieces
Jessica and Christopher found the 3D renderings invaluable, both as an accurate, realistic design illustration and as a reference while furnishing the apartment in stages. They began purchasing for the living room and foyer, then reviewed the bedroom renderings before committing to those pieces. Alongside Decorilla’s exclusive trade pricing, Sarah secured a price match for the sideboard. When selected cushions became unavailable, she also located possible remaining stock and added alternatives to their shopping list.
As the rooms took shape, Sarah continued helping with decisions, including curtain lengths and the diameter of the dining chandelier.
