This Tennessee condo began with bare rooms behind floor-to-ceiling windows. Now, a navy-paneled lounge centered on an electric fireplace gives the home its personality. The story follows Decorilla’s contemporary interpretation of Great Gatsby interior design, with room for the clients to stretch out in front of the TV.
The Challenge: Great Gatsby Interior Design for Everyday Living
Before moving into a newly built high-rise condo, the clients came to Decorilla for help with its builder-grade rooms. Their brief called for a modern interpretation of Great Gatsby interior design, with scope for color drenching. Since the living room took priority, the designer needed to plan around comfortable TV seating, and:
- Reconsider the dining area to give the living room more space.
- Design a built-out surround for an electric fireplace.
- Introduce expressive wall treatments while retaining the existing floors.
- Fit a king-sized bed in the bedroom and arrange furniture around it.
- Carry the Art Deco influence into the bathrooms and entry.
Design Inspiration: A Modern Take on Gatsby Interior Design
The clients’ references favored tailored, personalized interiors where deep wall color gave the seating area a sense of enclosure. Within that setting, geometric patterns brought the Art Deco influence into the room at an architectural scale. Curved upholstery introduced freer shapes among the repeated patterns. Polished surfaces caught lamplight against those dark backgrounds, giving the interiors a more intimate atmosphere after sunset.
Their inspiration also left room for an eclectic interpretation of Gatsby interior design, with contemporary and glam design elements alongside traditional architectural details. For this client, the appeal of expressive furniture came with a practical requirement: enough support to settle in comfortably while watching television. Meanwhile, a substantial fireplace surround would give the main seating group a fixed point of orientation.

Initial Concepts: Finding the Right Designer
Decorilla’s team identified Kamila A. and Ibrahim H. for the project, drawing on both designers’ strong track records. Each translated the Gatsby interior design brief into a living room concept with its own floor plan.
Kamila’s moodboard placed a cream sofa against navy walls, with gold edging tracing the squared profiles of the blue armchairs. Pale moldings framed a fluted fireplace feature that extended up behind the television. Behind the sofa, two upholstered stools tucked beneath a slim console, providing another place to sit at table height.
Ibrahim, on the other hand, developed the Art Deco interior design around navy paneling and a dark quartzite media wall. Glass sconces occupied the adjoining panels, extending the decoration across the wall. His floor plan gave the cream sectional most of the living area, with stools providing seating at the kitchen island.
The client selected Ibrahim’s proposal to develop across the condo’s remaining rooms. As the concepts progressed, they kept showing enthusiasm: “You are doing great work, and we have made tremendous progress. I am very impressed!”
Results Revealed: Great Gatsby Interior Design for a Modern Condo
The final design features strong architectural character, where paneling gives the furniture a defined setting. Color varies from room to room; recurring geometry and gold finishes carry the Art Deco influence through the home. The main seating remains generous in scale, accommodating the clients’ preference for comfort blended with style.
An Art Deco Living Room with a Defined Focal Point
Ibrahim’s Great Gatsby interior design gives the corner living room a sense of enclosure around its expansive glazing. The navy perimeter makes the cream sofa prominent, with daylight reaching it from two sides. At floor level, a broad rug marks the lounge within the open kitchen layout.
The original room had a substantial white bulkhead over a broad unused wall. Navy paint now carries across that bulkhead, folding it seamlessly into the new wall treatment. The electric fireplace requested in the brief shares a quartzite surround with the television, setting the orientation for the furniture. Sweeping stone veins fill the central field; narrow molding borders divide the adjoining wall into panels.
A broad sofa faces the screen directly, its generous upholstery answering the clients’ request for comfortable TV seating. An armchair turned toward the coffee table makes the arrangement work for conversation as well. Near the window, the rust chaise provides a separate place to stretch out. Meanwhile, counter seating at the island frees the main floor area for the larger lounge the clients had considered.
Suspended over the rug, the chandelier brings a cluster of glass drops down into the room’s upper volume. Glass sconces repeat that detail beside the fireplace, marking the edges of its stone surround. Gold appears again along the curtain rods and bar cart, carrying the lighting’s metal finish around the room’s perimeter.
Harmonizing Colors and Textures
The client wanted to retain the floor, so its pale timber tones remain part of the room’s palette. Blue markings in the rug carry the wall color across a light ground that relates to those boards. Above it, the coffee table repeats the pale tone in a smooth top. Fluting around its dark base introduces texture at the center of the seating group, where the table stands against the rug’s irregular pattern.
A Gatsby-Inspired Kitchen with a Dedicated Dry Bar
The kitchen carries the condo’s Great Gatsby interior design through navy walls and pale cabinetry. Painted soffits frame the upper cupboards and connect the kitchen to the adjoining lounge. The simple cabinet fronts give the patterned surfaces room to stand out, with daylight entering through the sink window.
At the island, three upholstered stools sit along the lounge side, leaving the opposite side open for kitchen tasks. The pale countertop offers additional room to prepare food, while open shelves provide storage at the island’s end. Across the working wall, the proposed geometric backsplash extends around the sink window. The client found the proposed Gatsby-style tile too busy, prompting Ibrahim to suggest revisiting an earlier black-and-white mosaic.
The dry bar provides a separate counter for preparing drinks, with drawers and cupboards beneath. Above it, wooden shelves answer the client’s request for a more substantial surface for bottles and glassware. Brass supports frame the shelves against bookcase-print wallpaper, creating the library effect the clients preferred within a compact niche. A short stone upstand protects the wall directly behind the counter, leaving the wallpaper visible above.

A Gatsby-Inspired Bedroom in Burgundy
The spare bedroom brings burgundy into the condo’s Great Gatsby interior design, concentrating the strongest pattern behind the bed. The client preferred the maroon scheme because it broadened the home’s palette beyond the blue used elsewhere.
Gold loops span the headboard wall, with the cream upholstery clearly outlined against them. Meanwhile, pale adjoining walls reflect daylight from the tall window. The reflection is supported by a wall-mounted mirror that also provides a dressing check within the narrow passage. Overhead, the chandelier’s tiered rings echo the wallpaper’s curved geometry – the client specifically favored this fixture’s gold trim.
Keeping the existing king bed was also important to the client, although Ibrahim had flagged the limited clearance at its foot. It left space only for a compact chair, which now occupies the window corner and adds a separate seat along the room’s perimeter.
Bedside storage sits within easy reach, with open shelves beneath the lamps and drawers below. The bedside lamps bring evening light closer to the pillows, where their broad shades diffuse it across the headboard while the wallpaper remains visible through their glass bases. Along the window wall, floor-length curtains soften the glazing’s black frame and can close across it for privacy.
Great Gatsby Interior Design for the Primary Bathroom
Gold wallpaper wraps the bathroom’s dry walls, giving its Gatsby decor a continuous geometric backdrop. Small rectangles in the wallcovering contrast with the gray stone’s long veins, keeping the two patterns distinct along the vanity. Above, the charcoal ceiling repeats the dark border around the existing floor, framing the gold walls from overhead.
Ibrahim provided two options for the bathroom walls. He favored houndstooth wallpaper with green stone. The client, however, leaned toward gray for the counter, but questioned whether gold fittings might feel excessive beside gold wallpaper. After comparing the renderings, they approved the gold version, explaining, “I think the gold will bring more light into the room as there are no windows.”
The gray stone continues up the wall behind both basins, protecting the area the client had worried about splashing. Vinyl wallpaper covers the dry surfaces above that band. Meanwhile, sconces flank each oval mirror, illuminating both sides of the face for grooming. Ceiling globes illuminate the passage beside the vanity. The original hexagonal floor remains beneath the green runner, following the clients’ request to retain their flooring.
Gold wallpaper continues into the separate toilet enclosure, where green-striped picture mounts echo the runner’s color. Meanwhile, the cabinet above the toilet uses the upper wall for storage.
Design Details: Sourcing the Perfect Pieces
Decorilla’s 3D visualizations gave the clients a clear preview of their Gatsby-inspired condo. They weighed bolder choices against their need for comfort and compared alternatives before buying. Two bathroom options in the renderings, for example, helped them decide how gold fittings would look against gold wallpaper. The tailored shopping list then identified the furnishings they could order with exclusive trade discounts. Decorilla’s ordering team meanwhile helped check stock and place orders.
As the remodel neared completion, the client shared photographs of the rooms. A few accessories remained to buy, and they were already asking Ibrahim to help with the guest bathroom and den. Their feedback returned to the priorities behind the original brief:
“We’re absolutely thrilled with the Art Deco style and the comfortable, inviting feel we achieved in every room.” – Kim, Decorilla client
