The Challenge: Modern Pergola Design
Just like any other interior design project, this poolside patio design came with its own set of obstacles. So, the designer had to address a few issues like:

The Inspiration: Modern Pergola Design
The clients were in the process of completely revamping their backyard. Their inspiration brief was dominated by modern pergolas and poolside patios and decor with fresh landscaping and a refreshing feel. They wanted a soothing, relaxing space where they could be at leisure. In other words, a modern pergola design with a strong structure but cozy lounging space. In addition, they were looking for swimming pool lounging chairs where they can just relax and enjoy themselves with family. Most importantly, they wanted an expert opinion for creating a nice layout near the fireplace where they can host friends and family.
The Concept and Moodboard
Two very talented Decorilla designers approached this design brief in their own creative way. The client received a design concept from each designer for his backyard space. However, the concept board presented by Drew F instantly caught their attention. The designer suggested all the elements that were in line with the client’s requirements. He used a neutral color palette to let nature influence the aesthetics. In addition, he incorporated a similar style for all the areas of the poolside patio which made the exterior very well put together. As a result, the outdoor living furniture that he suggested was exactly what the clients had dreamt of!
The Result: Modern Pergola Design
Drew’s entire modern pergola and patio design ideas look like a dreamy affair. The design was very smartly divided into separate spaces for each function. Firstly, he created a cozy lounging area and casual dining zone under each half of the pergola. Subsequently, he used two area rugs to define the zones and help soften up the space. The lounge area features an oversized sectional sofa with a defined structure and ample seating. Two armchairs in the area complement the sofa with its style and form. To break the linear structure, there is a round aluminum coffee table and a wooden dining table on the other side. The dining table is accentuated with light wood chairs that match the storage buffet.
The Result: Poolside Patio Design
For the swimming pool lounging chairs, the designer suggested an aluminum sun chaise. Each sun lounge is paired up with beautiful umbrellas and a side table. The entire row of loungers gives a resort-like luxury vibe. The designer used a mix of strong materials like wood, cement, and aluminum to create a unique contrast. On the other hand, there is also frequent use of cotton cushions and wool rugs to create a warm and welcoming environment. To bring a modern touch, the designer has used a mix of large size and lumbar cushions in neutral tones.
Near the fireplace area, two loveseats face each other for a cozy conversational layout. The design of the sofa is minimal and sleek, fitting in with the whole modern poolside patio theme. With twisted knotted yarn, the sofa brings a sense of casual luxury to the space. For a modern style pergola design, it is essential to leave furnishings and decor minimal to avoid clutter. The designer, Drew, has precisely followed this mantra and used only statement pieces to decorate the outdoor living area.
