Coastal Home with a Modern Lanai Design

We are building a new home and want it to feel like our oasis. We will have a large outdoor lanai with a pool and integrated spa. We would like the outdoor space to feel like a natural extension of the indoor ambiance. Our style is modern/contemporary with a beach/spa component. We sent Devin a link to several photos to give you a flavor of our style. In addition, we shared a link to the floor plan with room dimensions.

We do not want heavy fabrics as I have a dust mite allergen. But we would like fabrics on the furniture that are durable and can be easily cleaned if someone spills their food/drink. It might be worth noting that this shouldn’t be a common issue. We have no children or pets, so design elements with kids and creatures in mind is unnecessary 😊.

Although we want this space to feel comfortable and not too formal, we appreciate if furniture, accessories and other treatments carry a clean, crisp look with neat lines. But again, with a comfortable, relaxed component so the things still feel warm and homey.

For that reason, we really like the appearance of lighter, beachy looking woods strategically incorporated throughout. For example, treatments within a tray ceiling, feature walls, etc. We are planning to incorporate some type of warm, engineered hardwood throughout most of the main living spaces.

We are also interested in adding textural design features to some walls, built-ins and ceiling feature (e.g., beams, wood that matches the floor, ship-lap, etc. – or a new idea that we’re not aware of). Essentially, elements that tie the entire space together. My husband’s hobby is wood working and he would appreciate any help on wood-based design features (painted or natural) that can be added to select walls, ceilings, etc. over time.

We’re very open to new ideas and look forward to meeting a designer who can push us out of our comfort zone and provide ideas on how to cohesively blend a warm, relaxing environment with a style that has a visual impact. At the same time, we want to be practical, incorporating a mix of quality pieces where it makes sense and lower-cost items in spots where it’s not as important.
