Project Description

We are moving into a new house and we're starting with a blank slate, furniture-wise. We are starting with our living room. We do have two small dogs and a four year old so I'm looking to have a sofa and rug that will not stain easily. I was thinking of doing a gray-ish color for the sofa to help with that. Thank you!

What do you currently dislike about the room?

We are starting from scratch here - the staged photos were virtually staged from the real estate listing. We will hang a TV over the fireplace and the built in shelving will probably be rebuilt because it's a little flimsy. We need space for a comfy sofa (I am thinking with one or two ottomans rather than a sectional but open to all ideas).

I am looking to have space for our furniture (we are a family of 3 but I'm sure this will be an entertaining spot also) while leaving enough room to easily walk in the front door and also to the adjacent dining room without feeling like you're squished in or tripping over furniture.

What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?

I have existing side tables and blue lamps that I love, though I don't want the whole design to be blue-based. The side tables are marble and brass

Living Room:

Since your room gets plenty of sunlight your color options are quite broad.

For your main color, we chose to use white/off-white as it offers a fresh, clean, feel to the space. White and off-white colors are often a favorite for walls because they are light, neutral, and match most color schemes. They are known to make rooms feel more airy and spacious.

Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
