Project Title
Cozy Traditional Living & Dinning
Project Description
I need help with my first floor which is all open concept. I will not be changing paint colors and the kitchen and foyer are not part of the project. The granite counter top in the kitchen is a stone white, gray, and wine color. There is a mix of shiny chrome and matte chrome in the kitchen and in the light fixtures. The rug you see in the foyer is 5.5 ft by 9ft and I would like to use this in the living room instead of the large rug currently pictured there. The wall color for the whole first floor is SW 7016 Mindful Gray. Kitchen hood and some lower kitchen cabinets as well is the fireplace cabinets is BM HC-166 Kendall Charcoal, the rest of the enamel is an unspecified stone white. The Hardwod on the first floor is Urban Lifestyle Exotic Maple Dapple EX-DP309. The rooms that need furniture are the breakfast nook, living room and dining room. We do not like a lot of clutter or things that attract dust. The home was built in 2013 but is a mix of modern and traditional finishes. We have a dog and foster many dogs throughout the year so we prefer leather and wood over fabrics.

Masculine
What type of sunlight does this room receive?
Late afternoon light
What do you currently dislike about the room?
I do not like how there is no separation between the formal dining room and the living room. Mostly because the whole first floor is open and between the formal dining, the counter stools and the breakfast nook it feels like there are way too many places to eat but only a certain amount of space for couches/chairs.
What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?
The counter stools, light fixtures, wood mini-blinds and art shown will stay. We want to use the foyer rug in the living room (instead of the rug currently ther) and keep the rug in the dining nook-it's made by Safvieh, Venice Shag-see picture included for model number.
Are you open to changing your wall colors?
No
Are you open to changing your floor covering?
No
Additional comments to designers
We would like to purchase a sofa from Roche Bobois-it's their Scenario Sofa in charcoal. It's the straight sofa (not sectional) in the larger three cushion version.

    Hi Picharat-
Can you delete two of the Lucas leather chairs in the new sitting room rendering (formal dining) and replace with two of the West Elm Mid Century leather show chairs (from the original nook design)? We will then go in and finalize the design. Thanks!

    Hi Picharat-
Please use the dimensions of a general table for the breakfast nook as it may take me a week to track down the staging company the builder used to find out what brand the table is. Perhaps a coffee table, and/or a side table and another type of seating option so that 4 people can sit comfortably in that area? Thanks!

    Hi Picharat-
Yes we are back finally. After much debate we would like to revert to your original idea of using the formal dining room as a sitting area and using the nook as our only dining area. I've attached a photo of a dining set that we like for the nook area. Is it possible to drop this photo into the nook rendering? I think the rug you originally chose would still work. I'm not sure where to find this table. This set was put in our home for staging when it was a builder's model home. I plan to call the builder after Christmas to track the dining set down. Then move the two leather chairs that were in the nook to the formal dining room using the existing white rug. We would need a suggestion from you on a few tables, etc. to Finish off this space. Everything in the living room looks great!

Happy holidays Kristina! Hope you have great time with your family.

I can create the dining set you like in the renderings for you. Please let me know the size of the dining table if you can get more detail from the builder. Otherwise, I will use a general size of a dining table as a reference.

Do you have any preferable styles of a table to work with the leather chairs, something like a coffee table? I would be happy to find you some options for you.

I will be on vacation for a week during Dec 31st- Jan.8th but I will try my best to help you wrapping before I leave.

      Thank you,

    Hi Kristina,

I would like to let you let you know that I am currently working on 3D process which may take a bit more time than a regular space as there are multiple spaces in one large open space. I will try to wrap it up by this week. However, I have created a complete shopping list for you which you will be able to see it shortly after it has been approved from the admin. You can make any purchases for any items in the design with no downtime.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Hi Picharat-
    1. I emailed the admin address for samples and a "Linnea" responsed back that she needed to open an account with Roche BoBois to get them. I have not heard back from her.
    2. Nook: we will not be using the existing rug. Can you recommend others or for rendering purposes use the white shag one currently shown in the formal dining room?
    3. Nook: Can you change the wooden chairs out to the leather show chairs form the initial proposal?
    4. Formal Dining: What are the dimensions of the bar cabinet?
    5. Formal Dining: Will the chairs on the end be able to slide underneath the table or are the chair legs too wide for the legs of the table?
    Thanks!

    Hi Picharat-
We like the Catalina dining table for the formal dining room. Of the chairs you listed below for the formal dining room we like the Langham Upholstered ones the best in Oatmeal on dark teak. Not sure how the legs of the chairs will work with the table finish though in walnut.
For the nook we like the Woodward Round dining table the best from Crate and Barrrel although we are not sure how this will work with the dark mocha legs of the Elton Sette performance velvet in Dove gray? We like the saddle color for the caveat bench. I sent an email to admin to get the swatches for the couch. Please let us know if you have any questions. Thanks!

    please see my comments below:

1.Here are some options for a nook table.

2.The performance velvet in dove gray on the Elton Settee would work beautifully with the design. The legs would be pretty dark like mocha color. I also have some additional options below as well.

    Hi Picharat-Here are our comments:
    1. Nook: A. Rug-We definitely need a 8x11 rug. Want the rug to be more plush/soft. The Sissa rug was the closest but still a bit off from what we are looking for . Would be open to incorporating a wine and gray motif to match the granite in kitchen depending on chairs and table selected. B. Table- I like the shape of the retro dining table but not the white top or size. We need something a bit sturdier see houzz Maitland round dining dining table or Drive Oval Dining Table (we don't like the base of this one, just the top). We would like a 60'' table vs. a 47''. C. Settee- We like the Elton Settee the best. There are a lot of fabric choices so it was hard to select one. I'm not sure if this will be too light but I like the softness of the performance velvet, dove gray. Also not sure how dark the legs are on the sette and how this ties in with a wood table. Also see houzz, Rue-du-bac French settee. The color and style is off but we like the curve of the settee.
    2. We like the color of the coffee table.
    3. Bench-we like the caveat leather bench but which color would you recommend.
    4. Are you able to order swatches of the Roche BuBois scenario sofa? When I try to build the sofa on-line I get multiple colors that come up as "dark" instead of the name of the actual color. We would need to compare all of the grays side by side.
    5. Formal Dining Chairs- we are not a fan of the examples you provided. See houzz for the baxton studio embick mid century chair. We like the shape but not the black leather seat. See also Alice armchair in taupe. Again, not sure of the color but the shape in interesting.
    6. Misc. Chair-in looking through Houzz I came across the Klee armchair-not sure of this fits anywhere but thought I would mention it as a style we like.
    7. Formal dining table-I received an email from Dot and Bo last we that they shut down. The Thurber dining table we like was form that site and if I google it now, it doesn't come up anywhere else.
    8. Side table detail looks good.
Hope this helps narrow down-please let us know if you have any questions, Thanks!

    Hi Kristina,

Please see my responses and some alternatives below.

    1. According, the seat heights they are pretty much the same but the leather show wood chairs seat maybe squeezed down more than a dining chair a bit further. So the seat might be just a bit lower than a regular dining chair from the tabletop of the table. However, I have some dining table options which should work with the leather show wood chairs you like below.

    2. The coffee table in the living room has white marble and wenge finish on the lower part which is dark brown color. Please see the closed up image of its finishing in the attachment and let me know if it is too dark for you.

    3. Here are some options for larger rug for the nook, 8’x10’or 8’x11’ would be a great size for the area.

    Hi Picharat-
I discussed with my husband and here are the things we like:
    1. From the initial proposal the leather show wood chairs-would these work in the breakfast nook?
    2. The coffee table in the living room however, what color is the bottom shelf? We would like to stay away from black. It's hard to tell because in the photo of the scenario sofa the sofa looks black instead of gray.
    3. The living room rug.
    4. The leather wing back chairs in the living room.
    5. The formal dining table (but not the chairs).
    What we don't like:
    1. The existing rug in the nook, we think it's too small-can you propose a larger rug.
    2. The chairs, sofa and table in the nook. We would like a round table with a curved love seat. Also we would like the table circumference and the chairs to be larger-see our comment in the likes section. We like the leather show wood chairs-will the proportion of these chairs work with the height of a dining table?
    3. Can you enlarge the photos of the side tables in the living room so we can see more detail?
    4. The formal dining chairs-can you propose some alternatives?
    5. The contemporary gray bench-they look pretty similar to the formal dining chairs and we are not fond of the gray leather with wood look.
    Any questions, please ask. Thanks!

    Measurements:
    A. 16''
    B. 99''
    C. Short part: 36.5'', long part: 130''
    D. 142.5''
    E. 213''
    F. 21.75''
    G. 82.5''
    H. 76.5''
Note: the wainscoting in the nook and the formal dining room is 3/4'' deep.
I have attached some more nook photos per your request.
To the right of the fireplace is a large TV shelf which we use so we would prefer the living room chairs be moved to the left and have a bench on the right.
I like your concept for the nook as long as the table is pretty large so we can spread out newspapers and homework, etc. Also we would like the chairs and love seat to be really comfortable. They can be fabric and do not have to be leather.

    Good Morning Kristina,

I've reviewed your feedback and adjusted the floor plan for you to see overall space before making changes on furniture selection. Please see the updated floor plan in the attachment.

I do agree with you that 8-10 seats dining table can't fit the dining nook area and the formal dining area will work better in this case. I thought we can make a dining nook be casual and interesting area by mixing a loveseat with some comfortable chair as seen in an attached inspirational image (for function reference not design style). Let me know if you like this idea.

Regarding to your existing foyer Persian rug, it can be used in the dining nook area which will be a good size for that room and we can have a new rug in 9' x 12' for living area.

Lastly, Would you mind giving me some detailed dimensions of your spaces and additional view of dining nook as seen in reference plan? I wanted to ensure that I got all measurements correctly.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Thank you,

18x16 living room, 9x13 breakfast nook, 12x11 formal dining room. I've attached a photo of the living room without the old larger rug in the first set of photos. We are willing to move around the smaller Persian rug and the pearl color shag rug if that makes more sense. I also attached a picture of some wood trim on the outside of our house so you can see some of the lighter wood in the house. We like the Roche DeBois couch and are open to colors other than charcoal. We picked the charcoal color solely because it is in the gray family. Although we would like to have chairs near it that are not so modern. We are not so fond of the double rug concept. We would Iike our formal dining table to be all wood and comfortably seat 8-10 (table leaves are fine). We would like the wood top to be long and thin. See dot & bo website-warwick walnut extension table for an example. We don't think a table this size will fit in the nook so it will need to go in the designated formal dining room space. For the nook we are open to a small table to seat 4 or a non-traditional table that is more like a circular table with oversized chairs that people can eat at, work, at or just have drinks at. Any questions, please ask. Thanks!

It is going to take me a little longer to complete my concept. I will have it for you by the end the day. I hope this is not too much of an inconvenience and i do apologize for the delay!

      Hi Picharat-
I do not have a floor plan but in the notes section I gave the dimensions of the three contiguous spaces that need help. I Will look on Pinterest to see if I can find some looks and send them to you. Thanks!

Living Room:
Since your room gets plenty of sunlight your color options are quite broad.

For your main color, we chose to use gray because it is neutral and seen as elegant and classy. It compliments many colors such as white, blue, and yellow and works well as part of a color scheme in any room.

Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
